The president of the society, Dr Baaba Nyina Damoah noted that cervical cancer is preventable and treatable when found early. It is caused mainly by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus spread through sexual contact. Most women may not notice symptoms early, which is why regular screening (Pap smear or HPV test) is very important.
Girls and young women can also be protected with the HPV vaccine. Warning signs like abnormal vaginal bleeding, bleeding after sex, or unusual discharge should never be ignored.
Get screened. Get vaccinated. Seek care early – it can save your life.
